ABOUT THE BEAUTIFICATION AWARD

The first "Beautification Award" was bestowed in July 2004 to Bob & Esther Burroughs (click on "Past Award Winners"). Beautification Awards will be bestowed three times a year, May, July and October. This is an effort to both recognize the time and effort many of the residents have expended to make their yards and homes as attractive as possible, and as a motivation for "the rest of us" to keep our yards and homes in line with the tradition of beauty that has become a Meadow Brook standard! We will accept up to 10 nominations each period on our web site. There will be at least three independent judges each period from volunteers of the Meadow Brook Women's Club, which started out in the early days of Meadow Brook as a garden club! The criteria for judging is as follows:

  • Residents must be up to date on Homeowner's dues assessment for current year.
25 points (out of a total 100 points)
  • Overall curb appeal.
Up to 25 points. Does the house and yard have an attractive and well-kept appearance from the street? Are cars parked in an appropriate place? Is the house number easy to identify (safety issue)? Are the covenant restrictions for the sector observed? (Can you see the garbage can?)
  • Appearance of lawn, garden and natural area.
Up to 25 points. Is the lawn well manicured? Are the shrubs, flowers, and/or natural areas appropriately presented and maintained? Is there good planning in both front, side and back yard areas?
  • Appearance of the home.
Up to 25 points. Is the home in good to excellent repair? This will include the condition of the painted areas (or siding), brick or stone or other materials, roof, gutters, shutters, doors, sidewalks, etc.

Homes to be considered for the Beautification Award may be entered by either the homeowner or a third party. A tally of the independent judges will determine the winner, with the highest number of points awarded to an individual entry being the winner. These results will be given to the MBHO Board and their final decision will be posted on the web site (along with a photo if the property owners agree). Also a sign will be placed in the owner's yard for the period of the award and a $50 gift card from a local merchant awarded each period.
